The Animation Program
The animation series honours the art and craft of classical hand drawn animation. The courses focus on character performance, storytelling, and character body mechanics through a comprehensive program of feature film animation techniques. Artists will learn to master the principles of animation in 2D, as well as strong character performance and storytelling.
These animation courses are designed to continue the legacy of traditional animation, by equipping 2D artists with the skills needed to create feature quality classical animation, and by enriching the process of the 3D animator to bring stronger artistry and understanding to their work.
Animation 1
This course focuses on traditional Disney animation principles. Strong emphasis is placed on understanding the fundamentals and physics of animation and how they apply to more complicated scenes. Artists will also learn how to properly approach and plan their scenes.
* Course prerequisites: Fundamental knowledge of perspective drawing. Studio Technique offers a perspective tutorial that can provide the foundation needed to take this course.
Animation 2
This course focuses on character animation. Exercises are founded on body mechanics and physics, bringing life to characters and introducing personality and acting. Strong emphasis is placed on scene planning.
*Course prerequisites: Animation 1, (Optional: Drawing: Movement & Form is recommended)
Animation 3
This course accumulates all the knowledge acquired in the previous levels and brings it together to create more finished drawings. Emphasis is placed on intent, storytelling, quality of line and developed graphic techniques.

Animation 4
Advanced character animation in acting and lip sync. The focus of this course is to bring believability to the character's performance. This course covers a range of acting for animation techniques, as well as understanding how to use physicality to best communicate the emotion needed for the dialogue.
